Control of Major Accident Hazards (COMAH) Facility
Our Role - Control of Major Accident Hazards (COMAH) Facility

Project Details

As Principal Contractor for a multi-million-pound project within a Control of Major Accident Hazards (COMAH) facility, Wade was entrusted with delivering a complex, high-risk programme in a live, highly regulated environment. The project demanded exceptional technical capability alongside rigorous compliance with stringent safety, environmental, and operational controls. Wade’s established expertise in high-hazard project delivery positioned us uniquely to integrate seamlessly with the site’s strict procedures while maintaining operational continuity.

Our Approach

Operating within a COMAH-regulated environment required a meticulous, proactive approach. Wade’s first priority was the comprehensive identification and assessment of all potential project risks. Working collaboratively with the client and host site, we developed practical, robust mitigation strategies aligned to both regulatory requirements and operational realities.

A cornerstone of Wade’s methodology is clear communication, structured training, and consistent engagement. All contractors were subject to detailed inductions, targeted training programmes, and ongoing briefings to ensure a shared understanding of hazards, controls, and safe systems of work. This ensured every individual on site was fully equipped to operate safely and effectively

In partnership with the host site, Wade developed a bespoke Project Emergency Response Plan, fully aligned with existing site emergency procedures. Regular drills and simulations were undertaken to validate the plan, reinforce behaviours, and build confidence across all stakeholders, ensuring preparedness at all times.

Impact

The project delivered outstanding results. Over 500,000 working hours, Wade achieved an impeccable safety record with zero significant incidents, demonstrating our uncompromising commitment to safety and operational excellence. Crucially, all works were completed without disruption to the client’s ongoing operations, protecting business continuity within a sensitive, high hazard environment.

This case study demonstrates Wade’s ability to deliver complex, high-risk projects safely, efficiently, and without compromise. Our integrated, safety-first approach provides clients with confidence, control, and certainty, reinforcing why Wade is trusted to deliver some of the most challenging projects within COMAH and other high-hazard facilities.
